Mr.Krishan Kapila gets prestigious 'Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal'

ICA is proud to inform that Mr.Krishan Kapila has been awarded the prestigious Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal a few days back. Mr.Krishan Kapila is a well respected Indian Canadian in Saskatchewan. Mr.Kapila has been a past president of the ICA and first president of Hindu Samaj(society) of Southern Saskatchewan.

In 1995, the Government of Saskatchewan established a decoration to recognize the volunteer sector on the occasion of the province's 90th anniversary: the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Each volunteer reaches outside his or her personal activities to help others and make daily life in our province better for everyone.The recipient must have provided, without reward or gain, outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement in an area that is beyond the performance of the individual's normal duties or the exercise of the responsibilities of a profession to which that individual belongs.

Retired physics teacher Krishan Kapila has devoted his life to community leadership with an emphasis on multi-culturalism. He has committed his life to the ideal of bringing those of different faiths who reside in Saskatchewan together with the goal of creating mutual respect, awareness and appreciation for one another. His contributions to his community include:

• Founding member and first president of Multi-Faith Saskatchewan, committee member for Regina Multi-Faith Fairs and the Annual Dinner of Understanding and Recognition

• Founding member and past president of the Regina Multi-Faith Forum

• Founding member and first president of the Hindu Samaj (Society) of Southern Saskatchewan

• Founding member of India Association and past president of India Canada Association of Saskatchewan

• Past director, Saskatchewan Science Center

• Past director of the Saskatchewan Association for Science Fairs Inc.

• Catalyst for the expansion of science fairs in the province

• Past member of the RCMP Commanding Officer's Diversity Management Committee

• Past committee member of the Multicultural Initiative Fund and Cultural Advisory Committee of SaskCulture

• Spearheaded events for Saskatchewan's 75th, 80th and 100th Anniversaries and the City of Regina's Centennial

• Awarded: Saskatchewan Centennial Medal; Provincial Cultural Volunteer Award, Saskatchewan Council of Cultural Organizations; Mayor's Community Volunteer Award, Cultural Diversity, Regina; Volunteer Award, Silver Anniversary, India Canada Association; and the Award of Merit, Saskatchewan Science Teachers' Association.
