ICA response to letter "Event deserved better"
(published in the Regina Leader Post, September 6, 2011)
I write in response to the Aug. 24 letter, “Event deserved better“.
The Year of India committee and ICA (India Canada Association, Regina) appreciate the efforts of the Leader-Post to promote the cultural events happening in Regina and surrounding areas, but we do feel that Year of India 2011 events have not received the desired coverage and prominence in the newspaper.
This is a special year to showcase some of the most sophisticated and successful artists from India who have performed extensively around the world. Reginans who have attended the shows were spellbound by the caliber of artistic integrity reflected in these unique and vibrant performances.
The main objectives of the Year of India 2011 in Canada are to further enhance cultural, social, and economic relations between India and Canada and to establish stronger relations for the future. The friendships between Canada and India and India and Saskatchewan are flourishing. The ICA and Year of India committee are attempting to further strengthen such relationships through cultural events like “India in the Park” and many other shows. Our volunteers spend many hours to ensure the events are successful.
We thank the Leader-Post for its coverage of these events and encourage the paper to feature the Year of India in Regina more prominently, as the media has a powerful role to play in informing Saskatchewan people about the efforts and culture of their trading partner thousands of miles away.

Chair, Regina's Year of India 2011 Committee
